Bullying and cyberbullying

Student Support at SRU is part of Student Affairs and acts as a central location where faculty, staff, students, parents or community members can refer a student experiencing or causing distress that interferes with learning, development and success. Student Support uses a model focused on the holistic development of the student to assist when they encounter challenges, barriers, and crises that impact their ability to be successful and safe by setting goals and connecting to the appropriate resources.

In Student Support we focus on enhancing student learning and development through one-on-one case management, Boost peer programming, behavioral intervention, and critical incident response. Students, faculty, and staff members can submit a Care referral for a variety of concerns serving as barriers to a student’s ablity to excel in the classroom and in their social environments.

The Student Counseling Center (SCC) strives to facilitate the total development of students by reducing psychological problems and distress by enhancing mental health, well-being, quality of life, and supporting your aspirations. Our primary focus is on providing brief, confidential counseling aimed at helping students to succeed academically and interpersonally. When students require mental health services that are beyond the role or scope of the SCC, we will make appropriate referrals to campus and community resources.

Student Health Services is open Monday - Friday 8am through 8pm during the academic year and Monday - Friday 8am through 4pm during the summer and breaks. In order to serve our Slippery Rock University students better and to stay current with healthcare trends, all staff participate in a weekly staff meeting on Thursday from 2 pm - 4 pm. There are no appointments available at that time.

The Pride Center is an environment that encourages empowerment, awareness, and education about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. The Pride Center is a Safe Zone. It supports and affirms the diverse identities and lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer/questioning people by the cultivation of a safe, welcoming non-judgmental environment.
The Pride Center is happy to help students with any concern related to the LGBTQ+ community, such as housing, harassment, discrimination and name changes for your e-mail and student ID card.

Advocate for and support the holistic development, empowerment, and achievement of female students.
Encourage the development of academic, leadership, and gender identity competencies among members of the Slippery Rock University community.
Collaborate with campus and community constituents to promote inclusivity and respect with regard to pluralism, gender, and sexual orientation.

Overseen by Student Support, a Care referral provides an opportunity for students to meet with a certified case manager who will conduct a needs assessment and then have a discussion with the student about barriers, supports, goals, and resources.

Care referrals cover a wide range of concerns not limited to the following:

-Discrimination, Intolerance, Harassment
-Extended absence from class
-Medical or mental health hospitalization
-Homelessness or unsafe housing
-Hunger or inadequate food
-Difficulty addressing basic needs
-Experienced or been accused of dating/domestic violence, sexual -misconduct (Rape, sexual assault, sexual harassment), stalking or harassment
-Risky or harmful behaviors
-Concern about something the student told you or the way a student is behaving
-Medical leave from school
-Suicidal thoughts or ideations or engaging in self harm

Referrals can be submitted for yourself, or another students. Care referrals can be completed by students, staff, faculty, or anyone connected to students at SRU.
